How To Avoid A Cancelled Auto Insurance Policy

How To Avoid A Cancelled Auto Insurance Policy

Auto Insurance Cancellation Basics

When you enroll in a new auto insurance policy, you are most likely not thinking about when you are going to cancel it or if you should renew the policy. However, taking the time to fully understand auto insurance cancellation and non-renewal can help to make sure that you are not left without any coverage on the road.

Auto insurance non-renewal happens when your insurer decides that you are not worth the risk to continue your coverage. Having too many claims or a poor driving record can lead to non-renewal. Your auto insurance provider will need to give you at least a months notice for non-renewal. Keep in mind that once you have a non-renewal status, it will put an unfavorable mark on your insurance record.

Auto insurance cancellation can be a little bit more serious and can be the result of violating any terms of your policy. The issue can be the result of an arrest for a DUI, late payment, or insurance fraud, which can lead to your insurance company cancelling your policy at any point. Your auto insurance company is not required to notify you if they decide to cancel your policy, which could mean scrambling to find a new policy so that you do not have to deal with a lapse in your coverage.

The best way to avoid non-renewal or cancellation is to enroll in automatic payments so that you never miss your premiums. Following all the rules of the road and avoiding any tickets or other violations can also help to reduce your chances of cancellation or non-renewal.

Teen Auto Insurance & License Guide

Teen Auto Insurance & License Guide

Your Teen’s Road To Becoming A Licensed Driver

As a parent, your son or daughter nearing the age of driving permits is both exciting and scary. Certainly, you will be glad to have your schedule cleared of the endless carpool cycle, but you will probably be a little nervous about your young driver out on the road.

So is the state, and that is why they have implemented an intermediate license. Before teens can get even get this license, they will need to secure their learner’s permits. They can do this by taking a driver’s education course that will equip them to pass their written exam. By bringing their Texas Driver’s Education Certificate, a verification of enrollment and attendance in school, and an Application for Texas Driver’s License and passing the written exam and eye test, they can walk away from the test with a learner’s permit.

Once the permit has been secured, it is time for the young driver to log 30 hours of supervised drive time. 10 of those hours need to be at night.

With that experience and six months of holding a learner’s permit, the teen is ready to take his or her driving test. Once passed, he or she receives an intermediate license, allowing for solo driving between 5:00 a.m. and midnight and one passenger under 21 who is not a family member. This becomes a full license once the driver turns 18.

You can get a full checklist of your teen’s road to becoming licensed from the DMV here.

Auto Insurance Terms To Know

Auto Insurance Terms To Know

Insurance Terms 101

Deciding on the right auto insurance policy can be much easier said than done, especially when it comes time to understanding the various auto insurance terms. Keep this simple guide in mind to help make sure that you choose the best auto insurance policy for your specific needs.

  • Comprehensive – sometimes called “other than collision coverage,” comprehensive coverage will provide protection for damage that is done to your vehicle in an incident other than a crash, such as theft or fire. While comprehensive coverage is not a required coverage, it can help to save you hundreds or thousands of dollars.
  • Property damage liability insurance – if you hit another car or any other piece of property, such as a mailbox, your property damage liability insurance will cover the cost of the damages. Keep in mind that property damage liability will not provide any protection for damage that is done to your car during the accident.
  • Bodily injury liability insurance – this coverage option is required by law, and will provide coverage for any injuries that you cause to another driver during an accident. It is important to remember that bodily injury liability protection will not cover your medical bills if you are injured.
  • Deductibles – your deductible is the amount that you will have to pay out of your own pocket before your auto insurance coverage will kick in, so make sure that you choose a deductible that you will be able to afford.

Saving Money on Your Commercial Auto Insurance

Saving Money on Your Commercial Auto Insurance

Commercial Auto Insurance Costs

Taking risks as a business owner can help you reach your goals. However, taking risks with your insurance will never lead to anything good. While investing in the right commercial insurance policies can seem pricey, it is vital to keep you and your employees protected. To help save money on your commercial auto costs, keep these tips in mind.

  • Check driving records – before you allow an employee to be listed on your commercial auto insurance policy, check their driving records. Driving records can have a huge impact on your premiums, so make sure that only the employees with the best driving records are allowed to get behind the wheel of a company car.
  • Always have continuous coverage – letting your insurance coverage lapse for any amount of time will mean much higher premiums when you invest in a new policy since most insurers will want to see proof of prior coverage when writing a policy.
  • Ask about discounts – just like any other insurance policy that you have, there are many discounts that are available to help keep the cost of your commercial auto insurance low. Some of the most common discounts are when you pay in full, or bundling with your other commercial insurance policies.
  • Remember your credit – insurance companies may look your credit history to help determine your premiums. The better your credit, the better your rates will be. Make sure to ask your agent if your credit history is considered for your premiums, and what is specifically looked at.

Truth Behind 3 Common Auto Insurance Myths

Truth Behind 3 Common Auto Insurance Myths

Auto Insurance Myths Debunked

Finding the right auto insurance policy to invest in is much easier said than done. With all the policy and coverage options that are available, as well as the many auto insurance myths, it can be difficult to ensure that you invest in the right amount of coverage. Make sure you know the truth behind these 3 auto insurance myths so that you invest in the right policy to meet your needs.

  1. Myth: The color of your car will determine the price of your auto insurance. Your auto insurance company will probably not even ask what color your car is when determining your premiums. The rate of your auto insurance policy is based off the make, model, engine size, body type, driving record, and credit history, but not the color of your car.
  2. Myth: Your credit score does not affect your auto insurance. When you are looking for the right auto insurance policy, your insurance agent will pull your credit score to help determine your premiums. Studies have shown that people who have higher credit scores tend to file fewer claims, which will help to keep the cost of their policy low.
  3. Myth: You only need the minimum required amount of liability insurance. While legally this is true, it is not practical. In fact, many insurance companies will not even offer the bare minimum of liability insurance when you are looking for a policy. When investing in a policy, you should opt for the highest amount of coverage that you can afford to ensure that you do not have to pay for any damages out of your own pocket.
