The Annual Community March celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy while uplifting diversity and multi-cultureless in the city of Austin, Texas! The MLK Community March kicks off on Monday, January 18th, at 9 a.m. with a short program at the MLK Statue on the University of Texas campus.
The march will then continue to the South Capitol, then onto the Huston-Tillotson University, where exciting activities are planned! All businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals are invited to march and celebrate Dr. King’s legacy!
The MLK Community festival will kick off as soon as the marchers arrive on location and will last until 3 p.m. with local vendors and live music to make this year’s the best celebration yet!
The Capital Area Food Bank will be asking marchers to help by donating canned goods and non-perishable food items for those in need. Donations will be accepted at The University of Texas and the Capitol while the march visits each location.
In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we should all remember that he said “True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.”
